Master the Strength Within

the Tsuyoi Way

Welcome to Tsuyoi Karate

Tsuyoi, meaning strength in Japanese, represents the harmony of physical and mental resilience. At Tsuyoi Karate, we focus on traditional Okinawan Karate to help you discover your inner strength through a functional and practical self-defense and fighting style.

Open to all ages and encouraged as a family sport, Tsuyoi Karate blends the ancient art of kata, advanced breathing techniques, and practical combat applications with full-contact knockdown fighting. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced martial artist, our qualified instructors tailor training to your skill level and personal goals, supporting you every step of the way.

Discover your Tsuyoi at one of our UK dojos in Merton, SW London, Bognor Regis, or Chichester. Prefer to train from home? Join us online and embark on your journey toward strength, discipline, and unity!

Shu-Ha-Ri (守破離)

The 3 Stages of Learning

Shu (守) - Beginner

The journey of learning Karate begins with Shu (守), which means "to protect" or "to follow." At this stage, students focus on carefully imitating their teacher's instructions and mastering the fundamentals.

Ha (破) - Advanced

As you progress in your Karate journey, you enter the stage of Ha (破), which means "to break" or "to detach." This is the phase where you begin to move beyond imitation and start exploring the deeper meanings behind the techniques.

Ri (離) - Black Belt

At the advanced stage, you enter Ri (離), which means "to transcend" or "to separate." This phase represents the culmination of your Karate journey, where you move beyond strict adherence to form and develop a deep, personal understanding of the art.
